Our Preschool

Our Preschool is designed to coordinate activities across three different rooms:

1) the playroom – full of free-choice activities including table games, puzzles, floor toys, blocks, a dramatic centre, musical instruments, a listening centre, and an array of themed books to enjoy.

2) the creative movement room (gym) – where children partake in both creative movement and structured group time, engaging in rigorous activities using balls, beanbags, the parachute, and other equipment, usually set to music. Our group time encourages children to get involved in exploration of our monthly themes through discussion, game play, and worksheet completion to develop their cognitive and social skills.

3) the art room – offering children different media to explore their creativity using sensory materials (wet or dry: water, bubbles, goop, oatmeal, pompoms, grains, seeds etc.). Our free-choice art area includes a wide range of standard and specialty art supplies to encourage experimentation and individual expression. Our easel area offers a variety of paint, paintbrushes, rollers and dabbers and we make our own play dough fresh weekly.

Each day, a nutritious snack, along with juice and water, is supplied on-site. We encourage an independent atmosphere where children remove their own cups from their backpacks, wash their hands, eat, and rinse and return their cups to their backpacks. Crackers are always on the menu and we can accommodate special diets upon request (please speak with the supervisor).

For the safety of all children, the BDA Preschool is a peanut/nut-free and smoke-free environment.

Throughout the year, arrangements are made for field trips and for visitors to come in and speak to the children. We take nature walks to inspect and observe seasonal changes. The children also enjoy preparing for and partaking in special events including our parent day celebrations.
